It started with a question nobody would answer straight.
What is in our water?
Kelpie started in an ordinary kitchen, with an ordinary glass of tap water and a question that shouldn't have been hard to answer: what's actually in this?
The answer existed. It was buried in our water supplier's annual quality report, long, technical, and published where nobody looks. So we read it. Then we read the rules behind it, and found the thing that started this company: in Europe and the US, drinking-water limits are law. In Australia, they're guidelines. Recommended. Not required.
Nobody was lying to us. Everything was, officially, 'probably fine.' But 'probably fine' is a strange standard for the water your family drinks every day, and once we'd seen the gap, we couldn't un-see it.
Probably fine isn't a standard. It's a shrug.
So we built the company we went looking for and couldn't find: filters matched to your suburb's actual water report, certified hardware that does what the lab says it does, and straight answers about what each filter can't do, told as plainly as what it can. The name came last, and it was the easiest part.
